What Is Cutback RC-800 Bitumen?
Cutback RC-800 is a rapid-curing bitumen made by blending penetration-grade bitumen with a volatile petroleum solvent, but with a much higher binder content than the lighter RC grades. This produces a thick, viscous cutback that still cures quickly once applied.
A kinematic viscosity of 800–1800 mm²/s at 60°C, with a flash point up to 27°C, allows RC-800 to be handled safely while depositing a substantially thicker binder film on the aggregate than RC-30, RC-70, or RC-250. This translates into stronger, longer-lasting adhesion.
RC-800 is typically supplied to ASTM D2170 standards, with residue penetration between 80–120 and a negative spot test confirming solvent compatibility. It’s the preferred choice for spray sealing and heavy-duty road maintenance where thick coating and durability under traffic stress matter most.
