What is Bitumen 90/40?
Bitumen 90/40 is the most flexible grade within the 90-series oxidized bitumen family. Combining the high softening point of 90–100°C with the relatively high penetration of 35–45 dmm, this grade offers a unique combination that is difficult to achieve with standard bitumen: very high thermal resistance alongside significant flexibility at ambient and low temperatures.
This combination is particularly valuable for waterproofing sealants and expansion joint fillers that must not flow or soften in hot conditions (desert summer, sun-exposed structures) yet must also remain pliable enough to accommodate structural movement and resist thermal cracking.
Bitumen 90/40 is also used as a specialist base for elastomeric sealant compounds and as a bituminous filler for pre-formed expansion profiles in concrete construction.
