The basics

What is oxidized bitumen?

Air-blown bitumen with a high softening point, better elasticity and durability. It is used in roofing membranes, waterproofing, pipe coating and industrial applications that need thermal stability and a long service life.

It is made by blowing air through heated bitumen, which stiffens it and raises its softening point.

Grade names carry the two key numbers: the first is the softening point in °C and the second is the penetration in 0.1 mm. So 85/25 softens at about 85°C with a penetration of 25.
