What Is Grade E-70 Bitumen?

Grade E-70 is a high-grade SBS-modified bitumen in the Elastomeric Thermoplastic family, formulated for superior elasticity, flexibility, and resistance to cracking under heavy traffic. Its higher softening point (70–85°C) and tighter penetration range (25–55, 0.1mm) make it noticeably stiffer and more heat-stable than E-40.

A minimum elastic recovery of 60% at 25°C — along with reinforced SBS polymer content — gives E-70 stronger resistance to rutting and fatigue cracking across a wide temperature range, which is why it’s positioned above E-40 for higher-stress applications.

This classification — governed by ASTM D5, D36, and D6084 test methods — enables engineers and procurement teams to specify an exact elastomeric binder for highways, expressways, and pavements subjected to heavy traffic and variable climatic conditions.
