What Is PG 70-34 Bitumen?
PG 70-34 is a performance-graded asphalt binder tested to ASTM D6373, built to perform at high pavement temperatures up to 70°C while retaining flexibility at very low temperatures down to −34°C. This wider temperature spread makes it a step up in low-temperature protection compared to PG 70-28.
The extended low-temperature rating gives PG 70-34 exceptional resistance to thermal cracking and fatigue, which is critical for pavements exposed to severe cold snaps and large daily temperature swings. It still maintains the same high-temperature rutting resistance as other PG70 grades.
Classified under the AASHTO/ASTM Superpave system, PG 70-34 is typically specified for highways, expressways, and heavy-traffic roads in colder regions where standard grades risk cracking over time.
