The basics

What is bitumen emulsion?

A stable mix of bitumen, water and an emulsifier, classed as cationic or anionic by the charge on the droplets.

Bitumen is heated, then milled with hot water and emulsifier. High-shear milling creates droplets of roughly 0.5 to 10 microns.

We export grades for tack coats, surface dressing, slurry seals and soil stabilization, packed in new steel drums, IBC tanks or bulk tankers, and shipped from Jebel Ali Port on FOB, CFR or CIF terms. Grades meet ASTM, EN and AASHTO standards.

Choosing an emulsion

Cationic or anionic? Fast or slow?

Three things decide the grade: the charge, the setting time and how you will apply it.

Cationic or anionic?

Cationic bonds well with negatively charged aggregates such as granite and basalt and works on damp surfaces. Anionic suits positively charged aggregates such as limestone.

Setting time

Rapid grades (RS, CRS) break within seconds to minutes. Medium grades (MS, CMS) allow several minutes of working time. Slow grades (SS, CSS) break slowest.

Why emulsion over hot mix?

Fast setting, good adhesion, ambient-temperature application, lower fuel use and safer, greener handling.

Storage tip. Keep emulsion in clean tanks away from direct sunlight, ideally between 5°C and 50°C. Circulate gently before use and avoid contamination.
