    What is Bitumen 200/300?

Bitumen 200/300 is a very soft penetration grade bitumen with a penetration range of 200–300, making it one of the softest grades available.

It is specifically designed for applications requiring high flexibility, low stiffness, and excellent resistance to thermal cracking, especially in cold climates and specialized industrial uses.

Like all penetration grades, it exhibits thermoplastic behavior, meaning it softens at higher temperatures and hardens when cooled—critical for pavement performance.

    Applications of Bitumen 85/35

Torch-on APP bituminous roofing membranes (cap sheets and underlay)
Bridge deck waterproofing and wearing course bonding layers
Multi-layer hot-applied waterproofing for underground car parks and podium decks
Industrial floor and workshop slab waterproofing membrane

    Advantages of Bitumen 85/35

EN 12591 (European Standard) classifies penetration grade bitumen by its penetration value and softening point range. Black Rock Bitumen supplies all major EN grades, tested and certified for export from our Dubai logistics hub.

Softening point of 85–95°C provides excellent heat stability on flat and low-pitch roofs in tropical and arid climates
Penetration of 30–40 dmm delivers balanced flexibility — resists cold cracking without compromising heat resistance
Excellent compatibility with APP (atactic polypropylene) modifiers for polymer-modified membrane production
Strong self-adhesion and bonding to concrete, steel, and mineral substrates when torch-applied at correct temperature
Outstanding waterproofing performance across the full membrane life cycle
Good UV and ozone resistance compared to softer bitumen grades

      Frequently Asked Questions.

Oxidized Bitumen Grade 85/35 offers high softening point, durability, and thermal stability for roofing and waterproofing applications.

It is primarily used for torch-on APP bituminous roofing membranes, bridge deck waterproofing, and multi-layer flat roof waterproofing systems in hot and tropical climates.

How does 85/35 differ from 85/25?

The 85/35 grade has a higher penetration (30–40 vs 20–30 dmm), providing better low-temperature flexibility. Both share the same 85–95°C softening point. 85/35 is preferred for membranes needing flexibility; 85/25 for hard industrial coatings.

Yes. The 85°C minimum softening point comfortably satisfies EN 14695 requirements for oxidized bitumen in bridge deck waterproofing applications.

Yes. Bitumen 85/35 exhibits excellent compatibility with APP (atactic polypropylene) and is the standard base bitumen for many torch-on APP membrane formulations.

Recommended torch application temperature is 200–220°C. The bitumen should be fully melted and flow visibly before bonding to the substrate.

Yes. We supply Bitumen 85/35 to customers in UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Egypt, Nigeria, and many other countries from our UAE export hub.

Yes. Sample quantities (typically 25–50 kg) are available for new customers undertaking compatibility and processing trials.

Membrane manufacturers typically prefer 25 kg PE bags on pallets for easy handling in production facilities. Large-volume producers may opt for hot-liquid bulk tanker supply.

REACH compliance documentation is available for EU-bound shipments. Contact our technical team for the relevant SVHC declaration.
