Bitumen 85/25

Bitumen 85/25 represents a significant step up in thermal hardness compared to the 75-series grades. With a softening point of 85–95°C and a penetration of 20–30 dmm, this grade is purpose-engineered for industrial pipeline coating, anti-corrosion linings, and high-temperature protective coatings where resistance to both heat and chemical attack is paramount.

    What is Bitumen 85/25?

The 85°C+ softening point ensures that bitumen coatings applied to pipelines operating in arid desert conditions, hot process facilities, or buried in sun-heated soils will remain firmly bonded and dimensionally stable throughout their design life.

With a very low penetration value of 20–30 dmm, Bitumen 85/25 forms a hard, dense film with minimal risk of flow, drip, or sag even at elevated ambient temperatures. It is the industry-standard grade for many pipeline coating specifications in the GCC, Middle East, and South Asian markets.

Above-ground and buried pipeline anti-corrosion coating, industrial equipment protective coatings, bituminous enamel for steel pipes, and heavy-duty maintenance coatings for marine and industrial structures.

    Applications of Bitumen 85/25

Anti-corrosion bitumen enamel coating for steel water mains, gas pipelines, and oil transmission lines
External coating of ductile iron pipes and fittings for potable water distribution
Bituminous paint for structural steel, bridges, jetty piles, and marine infrastructure
Internal lining of steel tanks, sumps, and industrial vessels for chemical resistance

      Frequently Asked Questions.

Oxidized Bitumen 85/25 is durable, high-performance bitumen for waterproofing and industrial applications.

It is the standard grade for industrial pipeline anti-corrosion coatings, bituminous enamel pipe wrapping, and heavy-duty protective coatings for steel and concrete infrastructure in hot climates.

Why is a high softening point important for pipe coating?

Buried pipelines in desert regions can reach 60–70°C, and above-ground pipelines in direct sunlight can exceed 80°C surface temperature. A softening point of 85–95°C ensures the coating remains solid and firmly bonded at these temperatures.

Yes. The grade is formulated to meet the bitumen specification requirements of AWWA C203 (Coal-Tar Protective Coatings and Linings for Steel Water Pipelines), as well as DIN 30670 and BS 4164.

Yes. Bitumen 85/25 exhibits good resistance to cathodic disbonding and is compatible with both sacrificial anode and impressed current cathodic protection (ICCP) systems.

Application temperature depends on the specific process, but typically ranges from 200–220°C for hot-applied enamel systems. Processing above 230°C should be avoided to prevent flash point hazard and premature oxidation.

Yes. It is frequently blended with coal tar in specified ratios to produce coal tar enamel (CTE) formulations with improved chemical resistance and long-term durability, as per utility owner specifications.

85/25 has a lower penetration (20–30 dmm vs 30–40 dmm), making it harder and better suited for high-temperature pipeline coating. 85/35 has higher penetration and is preferred for applications requiring greater flexibility, such as roofing membranes.

Yes. We supply regularly to pipeline coating contractors and EPC companies across Saudi Arabia, UAE, Qatar, Kuwait, Oman, and Bahrain.

Yes. For large pipeline coating projects, we can supply Bitumen 85/25 in hot-liquid form via tanker truck or ISO tank container at 180–200°C delivery temperature.

Every shipment includes a Certificate of Analysis (COA), Safety Data Sheet (MSDS/SDS), Bill of Lading, Packing List, Commercial Invoice, and Certificate of Origin.
