    What is Bitumen 115/15?

Bitumen 150/5 represents the apex of the standard oxidized bitumen grade range: a product with an extraordinary softening point of 145–155°C and an ultra-low penetration of just 5–10 dmm.

At this extreme specification, the material is no longer a pliable bituminous product in any conventional sense — it is essentially a hard, glassy bituminous compound that requires high-temperature processing equipment and delivers exceptional performance in the most demanding industrial environments imaginable.  Applications for Bitumen 150/5 are highly specialised: high-voltage electrical cable insulation and filling compounds, chemical-resistant linings for vessels handling aggressive process media, extreme-temperature industrial protective coatings, and specialist industrial manufacturing processes where a very-hard bituminous matrix is required.

The grade is produced in relatively small volumes compared to standard construction grades, with strict quality controls to ensure the demanding softening point and penetration specifications are consistently achieved.

Our UAE supply facility maintains dedicated production capability for ultra-hard grades, supported by precise quality testing and a technical team experienced in the specific requirements of electrical, chemical, and extreme industrial applications.

      Frequently Asked Questions.

Oxidized Bitumen Grade 115/15 is a high-softening, low-penetration bitumen designed for superior waterproofing, insulation, and industrial durability.

Oxidized Bitumen 115/15 is an air-blown bitumen with a softening point of 115°C and penetration of 15 dmm, offering high thermal stability and hardness.

What are the main applications of 115/15 oxidized bitumen?

It is widely used in roofing felts, waterproofing membranes, industrial coatings, pipe insulation, and corrosion-resistant applications.

This grade provides superior heat resistance, reduced flow at high temperatures, improved durability, and better performance in demanding industrial environments.

Yes, its high softening point makes it ideal for hot and tropical climates where thermal stability and shape retention are critical.

Black Rock Bitumen supplies 115/15 in bulk, steel drums, and meltable packaging, ensuring safe handling and efficient global transportation.

Yes. With a penetration of only 5–10 dmm, the product is essentially solid-brittle at ambient temperature (20–25°C). It is designed to be processed in the molten state. Mechanical impact should be avoided in the solid state.

Typical surface resistivity exceeds 10¹³ Ω·cm. Dielectric constant (at 1 kHz) is typically 2.7–3.0. Volume resistivity and dielectric breakdown data are available in our TDS.

Yes. We supply to HV cable manufacturing plants globally, primarily in the Middle East, South Asia, North Africa, and Eastern Europe.

What are the supply lead times?Yes. For cable manufacturing plants using hot-melt processing, we can discuss bulk hot-supply options to minimise handling. Standard supply is in 25 kg bags or 200 L drums.

Due to the specialised nature of this grade, lead times may be longer than standard grades — typically 14–21 working days ex-works UAE. Please plan your procurement schedule accordingly.
