MC-70 Cutback Bitumen — High-Viscosity Rapid Prime & Tack Coat Binder

Our MC 70 bitumen is a rapid-curing cutback with very high viscosity, formulated to deliver exceptional adhesion, thick binder films, and long-lasting performance in spray sealing and high-stress road maintenance works.

What Is Cutback MC 70?

Cutback MC 70 is a medium-curing cutback bitumen made by blending penetration-grade bitumen with moderately volatile solvents, giving it a kinematic viscosity of 70–140 mm²/s at 60°C. This controlled curing rate allows steady solvent evaporation and gradual binder set.

Its residue shows a penetration of 120–260 (0.1mm) and minimum ductility of 100cm at 25°C, giving it strong flexibility and adhesion once cured. A negative spot test confirms consistent, homogeneous quality.

MC 70 is commonly used for prime coats on granular bases, surface treatments, and road maintenance work. Compared to MC 30, it offers higher viscosity and slower curing, resulting in improved binder retention and stronger surface bonding.

    Frequently Asked Questions.

Our MC-70 bitumen is a medium-curing cutback grade engineered for controlled curing and strong bonding in prime and surface treatment applications.

RC-70 is a rapid-curing cutback bitumen made by blending penetration-grade bitumen with volatile petroleum solvents, formulated to achieve medium viscosity and fast curing for road construction use.

    What is RC-70 used for?

RC-70 is widely used for surface dressing and spray seals, tack coats, road maintenance works, and medium-traffic pavement applications.

Per ASTM D2170, RC-70 has a kinematic viscosity at 60°C of 70–140 mm²/s, higher than RC-30, giving it a thicker binder film and stronger surface bonding.

RC-70 has higher viscosity and a slower evaporation rate than RC-30, which improves binder retention and delivers stronger adhesion for spray sealing and surface treatment work.

The penetration of RC-70's residue at 25°C ranges from 80 to 120 (in 0.1 mm units), tested per ASTM D402, indicating a durable yet workable binder after curing.

Yes, RC-70 can be applied at ambient temperatures without heavy heating, making it efficient for fast-track road works and reducing energy costs on site.

Black Rock Bitumen supplies RC-70 in new steel drums or jumbo bags, with a production capacity of approximately 1,000 MT per month and FOB, CFR, or CIF delivery terms.

RC-70 should be stored in sealed containers away from heat and ignition sources, with proper ventilation maintained during handling due to its solvent content.
