What Is Cutback RC-250 Bitumen?
Cutback RC-250 is a rapid-curing bitumen made by blending penetration-grade bitumen with a volatile petroleum solvent, giving it a notably higher viscosity than the RC-30 and RC-70 grades. The slower solvent evaporation improves binder retention and film thickness while still curing fast enough for road work.
A kinematic viscosity of 250–500 mm²/s at 60°C, paired with a flash point above 27°C, allows RC-250 to be handled and sprayed safely while forming a thicker, more durable binder film on the aggregate. Once cured, it delivers stronger adhesion than the lighter RC grades.
RC-250 is typically supplied to ASTM D2170 standards, with residue penetration between 80–120 and a negative spot test confirming solvent compatibility. This makes it well suited to surface dressing, tack coats, and road maintenance or rehabilitation work on medium to high-traffic pavements.
