Overview

Flexible and crack resistant for urban roads

Grade E-40 is a SBS-modified bitumen made by blending penetration-grade bitumen with styrene-butadiene-styrene (SBS) elastomer. Its penetration is 40 to 80 (0.1 mm at 25°C) and its softening point is 55–70°C.

SBS gives the binder elasticity, so it flexes under traffic and recovers, which helps resist cracking and fatigue. It is the softest and most flexible of the E series.
