Bitumen Grade AH90 — Balanced Hardness & Flexibility for Road Construction

AH90 bitumen is a penetration-grade binder offering an optimal balance of hardness and flexibility, suited for general-purpose road construction across varying traffic and climate conditions. Produced at Black Rock Bitumen's UAE facility and shipped to distributors across South Asia, Africa, and the Gulf.

What Is Chinese Grade Bitumen AH90?

Bitumen AH90 is a penetration-grade binder produced under the Chinese AH classification system, tested using ASTM methods for penetration, softening point, and ductility. Its penetration value of 80–100 (0.1mm units) places it in the medium-hardness range, giving it a practical balance between stiffness and workability.

With a softening point of at least 45°C and ductility above 100cm at 25°C, AH90 offers strong adhesion and flexibility during mixing, laying, and compaction. It resists cracking in cooler conditions while still holding its shape well enough for standard traffic loads.

This makes AH90 a versatile, general-purpose grade suited to highways, urban roads, and asphalt concrete pavements — sitting between softer and harder AH grades. It’s widely specified across infrastructure projects where a dependable, easy-to-handle binder is needed for medium traffic conditions.

BlackRock Bitumen supplies Bitumen 等级 AH90 worldwide, delivering consistent quality for global road construction projects.

Bitumen Grade AH90 is a penetration-grade bitumen derived from crude oil, with a penetration value of 80–100 (0.1mm) at 25°C. It is a medium-hardness binder under the Chinese penetration-grade classification, offering balanced flexibility and workability for road construction

What are the key technical specifications of AH90 bitumen?

AH90 has a specific gravity of 1.01–1.06 at 25°C, softening point of 45°C minimum, ductility of 100cm minimum at 25°C, flash point of 230°C minimum, and solubility in trichloroethylene of 99% minimum, per ASTM test methods (D70, D5, D36, D113, D92, D2042).

AH90 bitumen has a penetration range of 80–100 (in 0.1mm units) measured at 25°C under 100g load for 5 seconds, tested per ASTM D5, placing it between the mid-hard AH70 grade and the softer AH110 grade.

AH90 is widely used in highways, urban roads, and asphalt concrete pavements, where its balanced hardness and flexibility suit general-purpose paving projects.

AH90 offers good adhesion, durability, and balanced flexibility, along with a suitable viscosity range for easy mixing, laying, and compaction during construction.

AH90 is suitable for medium traffic loads. For heavy traffic or high-stress pavement applications, harder grades such as AH70 or AH50 are typically recommended.

AH90 sits in the mid-to-soft range of the AH series — softer than AH50 and AH70, but harder than AH110 and AH130 — making it a versatile, all-purpose choice for standard road and urban paving work

Yes, AH90 has a suitable viscosity range for mixing, laying, and compaction, making it practical to handle in standard hot mix asphalt (HMA) production and paving operations.
