Cutback RC 70 — Rapid-Curing Bitumen for Spray Sealing & Surface Treatment

Formulated with improved binder strength and faster curing, RC-70 is engineered for spray sealing and surface treatment applications that demand quick turnaround and durable performance.

What Is Cutback RC-70 Bitumen?

Cutback RC-70 is a rapid-curing bitumen made by blending penetration-grade bitumen with a volatile petroleum solvent, giving it a medium viscosity that sits just above the RC-30 grade. This slightly slower evaporation rate improves binder retention while still curing quickly enough for time-sensitive surface work.

A kinematic viscosity of 70–140 mm²/s at 60°C allows RC-70 to be sprayed or applied at ambient temperatures while still bonding strongly to aggregates. Once the solvent evaporates, the residual bitumen forms a firm, durable film suited to surface dressing and tack coat work.

RC-70 is typically supplied to ASTM D2170 standards, with residue penetration between 80–120 and a negative spot test confirming solvent compatibility. This makes it a common choice for surface treatments, tack coats, and medium-traffic pavement maintenance where stronger adhesion is needed than RC-30 provides.

Our RC-70 bitumen is a rapid-curing cutback grade designed for quick setting and strong adhesion in surface treatments and road maintenance works.

RC-70 is a rapid-curing cutback bitumen made by blending penetration-grade bitumen with volatile petroleum solvents, formulated to achieve medium viscosity and fast curing for road construction use

    What is RC-70 used for?

RC-70 is widely used for surface dressing and spray seals, tack coats, road maintenance works, and medium-traffic pavement applications.

Per ASTM D2170, RC-70 has a kinematic viscosity at 60°C of 70–140 mm²/s, higher than RC-30, giving it a thicker binder film and stronger surface bonding.

    .

RC-70 has higher viscosity and a slower evaporation rate than RC-30, which improves binder retention and delivers stronger adhesion for spray sealing and surface treatment work.

The penetration of RC-70's residue at 25°C ranges from 80 to 120 (in 0.1 mm units), tested per ASTM D402, indicating a durable yet workable binder after curing.

Yes, RC-70 can be applied at ambient temperatures without heavy heating, making it efficient for fast-track road works and reducing energy costs on site.

Black Rock Bitumen supplies RC-70 in new steel drums or jumbo bags, with a production capacity of approximately 1,000 MT per month and FOB, CFR, or CIF delivery terms.

RC-70 should be stored in sealed containers away from heat and ignition sources, with proper ventilation maintained during handling due to its solvent content.
