SC-70 Cutback Bitumen — Deep-Penetration Binder for Prime Coats & Base Stabilization

SC-70 is a slow-curing cutback bitumen offering extended curing time and deep penetration into granular base courses. Suited for prime coats, soil stabilization, and low-traffic road construction in cooler climates.

What Is Cutback SC-70 Bitumen?

Cutback SC-70 is a slow-curing bitumen made by blending penetration-grade bitumen with low-volatility solvents, giving it a longer curing window than SC-30 while still allowing gradual, deep penetration. This extended workability suits cooler climates where a longer open time is needed before the binder sets.

A kinematic viscosity of 70–140 mm²/s at 60°C, with a flash point of 60°C or higher, allows SC-70 to be handled safely while soaking uniformly into base layers over time. Its residue penetration of 120–300 keeps the cured binder flexible and well-bonded to the aggregate.

SC-70 is typically supplied to ASTM D2170 standards, with a negative spot test confirming solvent compatibility. It’s commonly used for prime coats on granular and absorbent bases, soil stabilization, and low-traffic road construction.

Our SC-70 bitumen is a slow-curing cutback grade designed for deep penetration and durable bonding in prime coat and low-temperature road applications.

SC-70 is a slow-curing cutback bitumen produced by blending penetration-grade bitumen with low-volatility solvents to allow gradual curing.

    2. Where is SC-70 commonly used?

    SC-70 is commonly used in:

    • Prime coats on granular and absorbent base courses
    • Soil stabilization
    • Low-traffic road construction

SC-70 cures slowly, allowing deeper penetration and uniform binder distribution before solvent evaporation.

    • Deep penetration into base layers
    • Uniform bonding
    • Reduced risk of premature curing
    • Suitable for cooler climates

SC-70 should be stored in sealed containers, kept away from heat and ignition sources, and handled with proper ventilation due to solvent content.
