SC-250 Cutback Bitumen — Controlled-Curing Binder for Surface Treatments & Base Priming

SC-250 is a higher-viscosity slow-curing cutback bitumen engineered for controlled curing and stronger binder retention. Suited for prime coats, surface treatments, and low-to-medium traffic road applications.

What Is Cutback SC-250 Bitumen?

Cutback SC-250 is a slow-curing bitumen made by blending penetration-grade bitumen with low-volatility solvents, giving it a notably higher viscosity than SC-30 and SC-70. This slower, more controlled curing improves binder retention and produces a stronger bond once the solvent has fully evaporated.

A kinematic viscosity of 250–500 mm²/s at 60°C, with a flash point of 60°C or higher, allows SC-250 to be handled safely while depositing a thicker, more durable binder film than the lighter SC grades. Its higher viscosity residue reflects the improved strength and coating retention this grade delivers.

SC-250 is typically supplied to ASTM standards, with a negative spot test confirming solvent compatibility. It’s commonly used for prime coats on granular bases, surface treatments, soil stabilization, and low to medium-traffic road applications.

    Frequently Asked Questions.

Our SC-250 bitumen is a slow-curing cutback grade with higher viscosity, engineered for deep penetration and durable bonding in prime coat and base preparation works.

SC-250 is a slow-curing cutback bitumen with higher viscosity, produced by blending penetration-grade bitumen with low-volatility solvents for gradual curing.

    2. Where is SC-250 commonly used?

    SC-250 is commonly used in:

    • Prime coats on granular base courses
    • Surface treatments
    • Soil stabilization
    • Low to medium traffic roads

SC-250 has higher viscosity and slower curing, providing better binder retention and stronger bonding.

    • Deep penetration with improved durability
    • Controlled curing and uniform coating
    • Reduced risk of premature setting
    • Suitable for ambient temperature application

SC-250 should be stored in sealed tanks or drums, kept away from heat and ignition sources, and handled with proper ventilation due to solvent content.
