PG 76-16 Performance Grade Bitumen — Rut-Resistant Binder for Hot-Summer, Cold-Winter Highways

Engineered for heavy-load expressways and extreme summer pavement heat up to 76°C, PG 76-16 bitumen prevents permanent rutting while providing reliable low-temperature cracking resistance down to −16°C under ASTM standards.

What Is PG 76-16 Performance Grade Bitumen?

PG 76-16 is a Superpave-graded bitumen defined by the temperature span it’s built to survive without failing. The 76 marks the maximum seven-day average pavement temperature it resists rutting at, and the -16 marks the coldest pavement temperature it resists cracking at.

This grade suits regions with hot summers and colder winters than PG 76-10 covers, where both rutting under heavy traffic and low-temperature thermal cracking are risks across the same road network. Polymer modification adds elasticity so the binder recovers shape after repeated loading.

Graded to AASHTO M320 / ASTM D6373, PG 76-16 lets contractors and procurement teams specify a binder matched to actual climate data instead of defaulting to a one-size-fits-all penetration grade.

    Frequently Asked Questions.

Our PG 76-16 bitumen is a high-performance asphalt binder designed for very high temperatures and moderate cold conditions, delivering excellent rutting resistance under heavy traffic.

PG 76-16 is a Performance Grade (PG) asphalt binder designed to perform at high pavement temperatures up to 76°C and low temperatures down to −16°C.

    2. Where is PG 76-16 commonly used?

    It is commonly used in:

    • Highways and expressways

    • Urban roads with heavy traffic

    • Industrial pavements

    • Warm and moderate climate regions

PG 76-16 offers similar high-temperature rutting resistance but less low-temperature cracking resistance, making it suitable for regions with milder winters.

    • Excellent resistance to rutting

    • Strong performance under heavy loads

    • Long service life

    • Suitable for warm climates

PG 76-16 should be stored in heated, temperature-controlled tanks, avoiding overheating and contamination to maintain binder performance.
