What Is Grade P-40 Bitumen?
Grade P-40 is a plastomeric thermoplastic bitumen modified with Atactic Polypropylene (APP) to raise stiffness and structural stability well beyond conventional or SBS-modified grades. With a penetration of 30–50 (0.1mm units) and a high softening point of 95–115°C, it holds its shape and load-bearing capacity even under sustained heat.
This grade is built for highways, expressways, and industrial roads subjected to heavy traffic and elevated surface temperatures, where rutting resistance and structural strength matter more than flexibility.
Tested to ASTM D5, D36, D113, and D2042 standards, Grade P-40 gives contractors a high-stiffness plastomeric option for demanding, high-load infrastructure applications.
