What Is Cutback RC-3000 Bitumen?
Cutback RC-3000 is a rapid-curing bitumen made by blending penetration-grade bitumen with a volatile petroleum solvent, making it the heaviest and most viscous grade in the RC series. Despite this thickness, it still cures rapidly once the solvent evaporates, forming an exceptionally thick and durable binder film.
A kinematic viscosity of 3000–8000 mm²/s at 60°C, along with a much higher flash point of 85°C, allows RC-3000 to be handled safely at this heavier consistency while still bonding strongly to aggregates. Its residue penetration range of 120–250 reflects a softer, more resilient binder suited to demanding conditions.
RC-3000 is typically supplied to ASTM D2170 standards, with a negative spot test confirming solvent compatibility. It’s the grade of choice for heavy-duty spray sealing, industrial roads, and airfield pavements where maximum binder thickness and adhesion under severe traffic or climate stress are required.
