What Is Cutback SC-800 Bitumen?
Cutback SC-800 is a slow-curing bitumen made by blending penetration-grade bitumen with a high binder content, giving it a much heavier consistency than the lighter SC grades. Its slow, controlled curing process allows it to deposit a substantially thicker binder film while still achieving strong aggregate adhesion.
A kinematic viscosity of 800–1600 mm²/s at 60°C, with a flash point of 70°C or higher, allows SC-800 to be handled safely despite its thickness. The high-viscosity residue it leaves behind delivers durable, long-lasting bonding under demanding traffic conditions.
SC-800 is typically supplied to ASTM standards, with a negative spot test confirming solvent compatibility. It’s commonly used for surface dressing, heavy-duty road maintenance, and high-traffic pavements where a thicker binder film is needed.
