Cutback Bitumen Supplier: Premium Rapid, Medium & Slow Curing Liquid Asphalt Binders

Black Rock Bitumen supplies Rapid-Curing (RC), Medium-Curing (MC), and Slow-Curing (SC) cutback bitumen — solvent-blended grades that apply without heating and cure at controlled speeds for surface dressing, patching, and general paving. Sourced from Dubai, UAE and shipped worldwide, our cutback grades are built for reliable performance in cold climates and time-sensitive road works.

What Is Cutback Bitumen?

Cutback bitumen is a refined bitumen product made by blending penetration grade bitumen with a volatile petroleum solvent — such as kerosene, naphtha, or diesel — to temporarily reduce its viscosity for easier application at ambient or lower temperatures.

The solvent type and proportion determine curing speed and classification: Rapid Curing (RC), Medium Curing (MC), and Slow Curing (SC), suited to various project timelines and conditions. As the solvent evaporates post-application, the bitumen reverts to an adhesive binder for aggregates.

This classification system — commonly referenced through grades like RC-70, MC-250, or SC-800 — allows engineers and contractors to select the right cutback bitumen for surface dressing, tack coats, or patch repairs, especially in cooler climates or where heating equipment is limited.

Cut Back Bitumen

Standards & Grades

Cutback bitumen is classified based on solvent type and setting time, which affects how quickly it hardens after application.

Rapid Curing

Quickly sets for rapid road construction as well as maintenance works.

Medium Curing

Balanced setting time for general paving as well as surface applications.

Slow Curing

Extended working time for pliability and durability used for road surface coatings.

Rapid Curing

Rapid-curing (RC) cutback bitumen is a fast-setting bitumen diluted with light petroleum solvents, ideal for surface dressing and light traffic roads.

Bitumen RC 30

Extremely quick-curing, low-viscosity binder for rapid applications

Bitumen RC 70

Fast-curing bitumen used for light road surfacing

Bitumen RC 250

Moderate-curing binder suitable for general pavement works

Bitumen RC 800

High-viscosity, rapid-curing bitumen for heavy-duty pavements

Bitumen RC 3000

Very hard, fast-curing binder for industrial applications

Medium Curing

Medium-Curing (MC) cutback bitumen is a solvent-reduced bitumen with balanced setting time, ideal for road patching, tack coats, and general paving applications.

Cutback MC 30

Fast-setting binder for light traffic road applications

Cutback MC 70

Moderate-setting bitumen for general paving uses

Cutback MC 250

Medium-viscosity binder for durable road surfaces

Cutback MC 800

Slow-curing bitumen for heavy-duty road construction

Cutback MC 3000

Very slow-curing, high-viscosity binder for highways

Slow Curing

Slow-curing cutback bitumen is a solvent-based bitumen that hardens gradually, making it ideal for heavy-duty pavements and low-temperature applications.

Cutback SC 30

Low-viscosity bitumen for light surface treatments

Cutback SC 70

Moderate-flow bitumen for general road surfacing

Cutback SC 250

Medium-viscosity binder for patching and maintenance works

Cutback SC 800

BlackRock Bitumen supplies Cutback Bitumen Emulsions worldwide, delivering consistent quality for global road construction projects.

Cutback bitumen is regular bitumen blended with petroleum solvents to temporarily reduce its viscosity, making it easier to apply at lower temperatures without heavy heating equipment. As the solvent evaporates after application, the bitumen returns to its original hard, durable state.

Cutback bitumen is classified into three main types based on how fast the solvent evaporates: Rapid-Curing (RC), Medium-Curing (MC), and Slow-Curing (SC). Each type is selected based on the solvent used, project timeline, and application method.

The curing speed depends on the type and volatility of the petroleum solvent used to dilute the bitumen, along with ambient temperature and weather conditions. Light, fast-evaporating solvents produce rapid-curing grades, while heavier solvents create slow-curing grades.

RC cutback bitumen grades — including RC-30, RC-70, RC-250, and RC-800 — are primarily used for surface dressing, chip seals, tack coats, and prime coats on road construction projects where fast curing and strong aggregate adhesion are critical. RC grades are favoured in warm climates and fast-turnaround maintenance works where quick road opening times matter.

MC cutback bitumen is used for road patching, tack coats, and general paving applications where a balanced setting time is needed, available in grades from MC 30 up to MC 3000 for varying pavement demands.

SC cutback bitumen is ideal for heavy-duty pavements, low-temperature applications, and road surface coatings that need extended working time before hardening, ranging from SC 30 for light treatments to SC 3000 for heavy industrial use.

Yes, cutback bitumen performs well in cold climates because the solvent dilution reduces its viscosity, allowing workable application without preheating, unlike straight-run penetration grade bitumen.

Cutback bitumen offers superior workability, strong adhesion, and ease of application without heating, making it well-suited for regions or seasons where heating hot mix asphalt isn't practical.
