PG 70-16 Performance Grade Bitumen — Rutting-Resistant Binder for Highways in Variable Climates

PG 70-16 delivers high-temperature rutting resistance down to −16°C low-temperature flexibility, cutting thermal cracking risk on highways and urban roads. Backed by Dubai-based supply at 50,000 MT/month

What Is PG 70-16 Bitumen?

PG 70-16 is a Performance Grade asphalt binder built to handle pavement temperatures up to 70°C while staying flexible down to −16°C. Compared to PG 70-10, the wider low-temperature range (−16°C vs. −10°C) makes it the better fit for regions with colder winters but similar summer heat.

A creep stiffness limit at −6°C (ASTM D6648) alongside dynamic shear requirements is what separates this grade from PG 70-10 — it’s specifically tested for how the binder behaves as temperatures drop, not just how it holds up in heat. That combination prevents both rutting in summer and thermal cracking in winter.

This classification — governed by ASTM D6373, D6648, D4402, and D92 test methods — enables engineers and procurement teams to specify an exact performance binder for highways, urban roads, and pavements exposed to heavy traffic and varying climatic conditions.
