What Is PG 76-28 Performance Grade Bitumen?
PG 76-28 is a Superpave-graded bitumen designed for a demanding thermal range — holding up against rutting at pavement temperatures up to 76°C while resisting cracking down to -28°C. That 104°C span makes it suited to regions with harsh winters but still-hot summer pavement surfaces.
It’s typically specified for high-volume highways, mountain routes, and freight corridors in cold climates, where heavy axle loads and winter cold stress the binder. Polymer modification improves elasticity, helping the pavement recover from deformation and resist low-temperature fatigue cracking.
Graded under AASHTO M320 / ASTM D6373, PG 76-28 gives infrastructure planners a binder matched to genuinely cold, high-traffic environments rather than a compromise grade.
