Bitumen Grade AH70 — Temperature-Stable Asphalt Binder for Highway Pavements

AH70 bitumen is a penetration-grade binder manufactured in the UAE, offering excellent temperature stability and durability for standard highway pavement construction. Supplied and exported by Black Rock Bitumen, Dubai — trusted by contractors across the Middle East, Asia, and Africa.

What Is Bitumen Grade AH70?

Bitumen Grade AH70 is a Chinese-standard penetration-grade bitumen made from crude oil, classified by a penetration value of 60–80 (0.1mm) at 25°C. This medium penetration range gives it a balance of stiffness and workability suited to standard highway paving.

It has a minimum softening point of 46°C and minimum ductility of 100cm at 25°C, providing good flexibility and resistance to deformation under standard road conditions. Its low loss on heating (max 0.5 wt.%) and negative spot test result confirm stable, consistent quality.

AH70 is commonly used in hot mix asphalt production for standard highway pavements. It performs well under medium to moderately heavy traffic, complying with major Chinese and international asphalt standards.

    Frequently Asked Questions.

BlackRock Bitumen supplies Bitumen 等级 AH70 worldwide, delivering consistent quality for global road construction projects.

Bitumen Grade AH70 is a penetration-grade bitumen derived from crude oil, with a penetration value of 60–80 (0.1mm) at 25°C. It is a mid-hard grade under the Chinese penetration-grade classification, commonly used for standard highway pavements.

    What does "AH70" mean?

"AH" refers to the asphalt (bitumen) grade series, and "70" indicates its mid-point penetration value, reflecting the binder's hardness and consistency at 25°C.

AH70 has a specific gravity of 1.01–1.06 at 25°C, softening point of 46°C minimum, ductility of 100cm minimum at 25°C, flash point of 230°C minimum, and solubility in trichloroethylene of 99% minimum, per ASTM test methods (D70, D5, D36, D113, D92, D2042).

AH70 bitumen has a penetration range of 60–80 (in 0.1mm units) measured at 25°C under 100g load for 5 seconds, tested per ASTM D5, placing it between the harder AH50 and softer AH90/AH110/AH130 grades.

AH70 is commonly used for standard highway pavements, general road construction, and hot mix asphalt (HMA) production, offering balanced viscosity and temperature stability for everyday paving projects.

AH70 is suitable for medium to moderately heavy traffic conditions. For very heavy traffic or extreme heat, harder grades such as AH50 are typically preferred.

Yes, AH70 is widely used in hot mix asphalt (HMA) production at asphalt mixing plants due to its good workability and balanced durability.

AH70 sits in the mid-range of the AH series, harder and stiffer than AH90, AH110, and AH130, but softer and more flexible than AH50, making it a versatile choice for general highway pavements.
