What Is PG 82-16 Performance Grade Bitumen?
PG 82-16 is a Superpave-graded bitumen built for a wide performance window, resisting rutting at pavement temperatures up to 82°C while remaining crack-resistant down to -16°C. The gap between the two numbers reflects a binder engineered to handle real seasonal swings without losing its high-temperature rutting resistance.
It’s typically specified for high-volume freeways, ports, and industrial haul roads in hot regions that still see noticeably cooler winters — conditions where a standard PG76 binder may not offer enough margin against summer rutting. Heavy polymer modification improves elastic recovery under repeated heavy loading.
Certified to AASHTO M320 / ASTM D6373 Superpave standards, PG 82-16 is chosen when both extreme heat and moderate winter cold need to be covered in one binder.
