What Is Grade E-120 Bitumen?
Grade E-120 is the premium tier of the Elastomeric Thermoplastic family, formulated with SBS polymer for exceptional flexibility, elasticity, and resistance to cracking. Its high softening point (75–95°C) and penetration range of 30–60 (0.1mm) reflect a binder built to hold its structure under extreme heat while staying flexible in the cold.
A minimum elastic recovery of 70% at 25°C — the highest in the E-series — combined with force ductility testing at 4°C, is what qualifies E-120 for the most demanding infrastructure: it must resist both rutting under sustained heavy loads and low-temperature cracking simultaneously.
This classification — governed by ASTM D5, D36, D6084, and D113 test methods — enables engineers and procurement teams to specify an exact elastomeric binder for highways, expressways, airport runways, and pavements requiring maximum flexibility with structural durability.
